Someone said they heard it was only 20 more days or so. That was a week or two ago. So now it must be about a week or two away. Now the sun doesn’t set until after 7:30 pm. The marquee sign outside the nursery down the road says, “It’s almost time 🤭”
And yes, they actually used that emoji as if to convey that they’re sharing this season’s best-kept secret with a whisper and a giggle. They announced on the sign a few weeks ago, that they have “these cool new emojis.” And now, they use them recklessly. It’s my favorite thing ever. It feels like something my Grampa would have said if he had discovered emojis back when he was around to text me.
He loved to text because he couldn’t hear that well. He always talked about flying in the back of B52 Bombers when he was in the Air Force. But he was a golfer. When I would drive up North on the cusp of the seasons changing, we would drive real slow past the golf course to check if it’s “ready.”
Just like me, he could hardly wait for spring.
It must be about a week or two away. I can feel my body, bones - my breath thawing out. Can you feel it too?
I’ve seen five springs, going on six, come and go without my Grampa. But I still drive real slow past the golf course, checking to see if it’s ready.
My cousin is about to bring her second into this world - a baby girl, and I can’t help but wonder if she’ll be born on the first day.
“Any day now,” my cousin told me.
“Any day now,” says the weatherwoman.
It’s almost time.
beautiful.... c'mon spring!
